DIAMONDS
Buying a diamond is unlike any other purchase you will ever make because no two diamonds are identical. Like people, they all have their own identities, personalities and appearances. It is easy to find several diamonds with the same characteristics on paper, but when you examine them side by side, it is obvious one will be more entertaining to look at. When purchasing a diamond, base your decision on all the attributes of the stone, not just the certification of the stone.
Mine cut diamonds originated in the 19th century; designed by artisans and the diamonds were all Hand Cut. Mine cut diamonds were phased out in the early 1900’s.
European cut diamonds are a descendant from the the mine cut, and are a more symmetrical looking diamond. The look of the diamonds have small tables and heavy crowns but in some circumstances are extremely brilliant.
Ideal cut diamonds are diamonds that have been cut scientifically to promote the absolute most brilliance possible. The diamonds are cut using modern methods and technology.
GIA stands for Gemological Institute of America. They are the worlds foremost authority in gemology. GIA has the highest standards of any independent gemological laboratory in the world. There are several different independent labs located throughout the world but they all fall considerably short of the ability and integrity of GIA. Do not be confused of GIA Gemologists and GIA Certifications.
